The Galactic Positioning Sensor is a small, inexpensive device used for navigation. It uses a complex triangulation algorithm to identify the signatures of known objects, such as stars, satellites, and planets which are identified by their unique radiation signatures to calculate the location of the device. Dependent on the parameters inputted by the user, it can identify the sector of the galaxy, system, planet, and specific location on the planet to within one hundred meters. The accuracy of the GPS's location is highly dependent on the number of known reference points available. The more sources of data accessed, the more precise the position will be. It can also be programmed with a destination and way points to permit travel within a city or wilderness area to be as precise as a navcomputer's calculations for hyperspace travel between sectors of known space.
